Quilt for a Cure - special project for Quilter's Companion magazine to raise funds for Cancer Research
This quilt was designed & pieced by my sister Helen Stubbings. The quilting designs were drawn by me on paper first, so that they could fit on a pattern sheet in the magazine for all to use. The fabrics were supplied by Lloyd Curzon in Australia & a percentage of sales of these fabrics will also go to cancer research. Hopefully lots of shops will order the fabric & help promote the kits to customers using the instructions in the magazine. Finally the quilt will be auctioned & all monies also donated. The quilting designs on this quilt are also going to be coloured by Helen once she receives it & before it goes in the magazine.
Yet another Baltimore from Julie
This was hand appliquéd again by Julie! I have used Nu-wool batting and Superior Masterpiece thread in the top and Superior bottom line in the bobbin for this heavily quilted quilt. All the interior is freehand over the top feather meander and the border feathers have been done freehand with only the spines marked to provide some guidelines. A pebble fill has been used to feature the feathers. Sweet Baltimore
is a perfect quilt made by my friend Julie! The appliqué is exquisite and the quilting needed to enhance but not take over the design of the quilt. I used Hobbs cotton bleached wadding, Superior Masterpiece 100% cotton 50wt thread in the top and Superior Bottom line in the bobbin. The centre feather wreath was freehand. I used Renae's Mini Rays to draw the 3 circles to guide me with my freehand feathers. The rays were also used to 'dot' the inner circle to guide me on placement of my 7" baptist fan template that was used to assist in stitching the curved radiating lines. For the undulating feather border either side of the red fabric border, I used one of my DWR Arcs to draw the outer guidelines and then freehanded the feathers. A tiny stipple finished off the background to create a restful space to focus on the glorious appliqué! NYP Quilter's Guild raffle quilt 2006
This quilt was pieced by the members of the NYP Quilter's Guild on Yorke Peninsula, SA. It will be raffled to raise funds for the local community and the winner will be drawn at our Kernewek Lowender exhibition in May 2007. Hobbs bleached cotton was used to maintain the crispness of the white fabric on this quilt. Superior Masterpiece cotton in the top and Rasant cotton covered polyester thread in the bobbin. I used a circle template to create the circle around all the stars and freehanded the feathers and continuous curves in these blocks. The rest of the 3000+ 1 1/2" squares were all continuous curves using Signature variegated denim blue thread. Enjoy....
