Our School Community! This 3 part textile mural was designed by me to be displayed in our new administration building, to represent our history & foresight in creating a Christian run & controlled school in our local town. The first panel is representing the different backgrounds our school community is drawn on. Agriculture with cropping, animals, fishing industry, mining industry, olives and farm house & yard. The silos, railway line and a motorcross track! The second panel focus's on our school logo & motto. Our heritage is detailed in accurate reproductions of local buildings and festivals (Maypole at our Kernewek Lowender-Cornish Festival) Also our school oval extends to this panel showing the variety of sports that are represented & our 'house' colours and names. The final third panel is our school and subjects that are covered. The children are dressed in our school uniforms and our pride & joy, the school bus is also featured. The 3 dimensional tree & leaves are representative of God's arms sheltering our school & children. We even have ants & ladybugs on the trunk of the tree, along with many 3 dimensional gum leaves. This quilt was achieved in one year of hard work from a great number of mums who participated! Many had not even had any experience in creating patchwork, but were willing to be involved & learn.
Hope you enjoy the pictures & feel our pride in our achievements!
Sweet Dreams is the latest in our Quizzles(TM) range of designs! Heirloom feathers are quilted extensively on this quilt, which has Mini Jumbuck Nu Wool batting 60/40 wool/poly. This batting has a lovely loft to it & very consistent.
Baby Fun!! is also on the same Dreamy Nights Quizzle(TM) as a lap size quilt using the same block in a different setting! I enjoyed the light heartedness of the fabrics in this quilt and quilted freehand daisies and leaves in the borders & centre of the blocks. I used a pretty lavender thread called Masterpiece by Superior Threads. It is a very fine 100% cotton thread that has minimal lint but is still strong to machine quilt with.
Jewel Star is the last on this Dreamy Nights Quizzle(TM) . A stunning wall hanging is created using jewel toned fabrics. For something a little different I used a King Tut variegated thread from Superior Threads and quilted different sized pebbles in the outer border and freeform lines in the star points. To simplify the quilting on the pieced area I used an aqua thread to quilt concentric circles in the secondary areas of the design.
Fairy Kisses is a BOM designed by Helen Stubbings of Hugsnkisses. This version is delightful in using some autumn toned fabrics instead of the traditional muted salmon pinks, grey/blues & olives. The quilting is still as the original quilt with crosshatching using King Tut variegated thread to match the fabrics in the coloured areas and a natural cream for all the background work. Hobbs Heirloom cotton was used as the batting. This was a delight to quilt with my new A1 Quilting machine using cruise mode to streamline the quilting.
