This quilt was made by Pam from a kit purchased from Queensland. She has extended the quilt top to make it larger to use it as a tablecloth from the original pattern. All the backgrounds to the appliqués have been loopy meandered in natural thread. The blocks between the appliqués have a half or three-quarter circle feathered wreaths using an 8" diameter circle template to create the spines. Crosshatching on the checkerboard border of the centre panel was done using my Stitch in the Ditch guide as well as for ditching all the borders on this quilt. A freehand rose & leaf vine design was used in two of the borders. The feathered motifs were drawn onto the large rectangle background fabrics top & bottom using a blue washout marker pen. I just drew guidelines then freehanded the rest. The trickiest bit to this quilt was the blue patterned outer & inner border as I just could not see where I was quilting!! I ended up turning off all the lights in the room including my machine light and quilting only with natural light from a small window in the room. This created some 'shadows' on the quilt so I could see where I had been!

This huge bright hexagon quilt was made by Pat. It is pieced beautifully!! I have used Aurifil 100% cotton variegated primary colours thread on both the top and in the bobbin. The result is a wonderful whole-cloth look on the plain purple backing fabric which looks stunning!! I went through a whole spool of thread with this one but it was worth it! The funky flowers used in this quilt are taken mainly from the fabrics themselves. If you look at photo #2 you can see the different styles of flowers that I have copied. The whole 'funky flower meander' (this is my name for it anyway!!) is based on Darlene Epp's branching technique in her pocket guides. I just used 4 different flowers, leaves and swirls/tendrils to create an all-over pattern on the quilt.

Grace's quilt.jpg (238614 bytes)Grace's cnr.jpg (276038 bytes)Grace's side.jpg (202769 bytes)This quilt has been made by the Northern Yorke Peninsula Quilter's Guild (my local guild) to be given to a little girl who has recently become a paraplegic due to an unfortunate accident on her horse. I have quilted this quilt with a loopy meander in all the background areas and straight lines through the 'chain' fabrics. The first yellow border as a 2" scallop using circle templates and the final border has a hearts and loops design from Darlene Epp's pocket guides. It was a privilege to be able to donate the quilting to this lovely lap quilt. The guild also made a 'pocket' to go on the back to enable Grace to put her feet/legs into in her wheelchair. She is a very brave and positive little girl!!

Hugs for Mr Kempe.jpg (251656 bytes)Hugs back.jpg (181066 bytes)Hugs label.jpg (276547 bytes) This quilt was made by me using nine-patches swapped with members of the online quilting guild - Southern Cross Quilters (Scquilters!). This particular month had a theme of plaids which I thought would be perfect for a man's quilt. 'Hugs for Mr Kempe' was made for my eldest daughter's teacher as a special thankyou gift this christmas for the extra care & attention he has shown particularly to Emma, but also to all his 'children'. It was very much appreciated and he was absolutely overwhelmed by the gift when my 9yr old presented it at school! The label on the back explains further, the meaning of the title of the quilt. It was quilted very simply with crosshatching all the nine patches and stippling the light background. The dark triangles were all ditched and the light border crosshatched as well. I followed the lines of the fabric in the plaid of the final border!

'Fairy Kisses' is a Block of the Month designed by Helen Stubbings of www.hugsnkisses.net . Wholesale enquiries are welcomed by shops by going through the above website. This quilt is 78" x 78" and is primarily beautiful stitchery patterns combined with colour shading with pencils and basic patchwork techniques to finish it off. This is the original sample quilted with crosshatching in outer 'vine' borders and also the inner checkerboard as well. The fairies in the centre are outlined as are the butterflies. A flower motif taken from one of her stitchery design flowers has been placed in all the pieced triangles surrounding the heart stitcheries. The background to the heart stitcheries have been loopy meandered to give a 3 dimensional effect to the hearts. The top & bottom borders of courthouse step blocks with stitchery centres have been spiralled by splitting each log with a row of stitching down the centre. This gives the effect of extra seams or skinny logs/more intricate piecing! There is a lot of ditching to stabilize this quilt initially as all stitcheries are backed with pellon when stitched and then Matilda's Own wool  60/40% blend wadding was used as the main wadding. It is quite a heavy quilt but will hang flat with the extensive quilting now on it!

This little wallhanging was designed and stitched by me earlier this year using some of my hand dyed fabrics and has been waiting for a break in my schedule for me to quilt it! I have crosshatched in black Rasant thread in the centre behind the appliqué. Ditched the mustard/gold 1/2" border, then I drew the quilting design on the outer black border using the appliqué flowers and leaves as the design. The inspiration for this little quilt came from this site on the internet. http://perso.wanadoo.fr/struss/archive/archive.htm I have modified it greatly and added another flower, but I do thank Simone for providing the initial inspiration. I have used a gorgeous Aurifil variegated thread, purchased from www.alwaysquilting.com.au in Australia,  for the outer border quilting. The marker I used on the black fabric to mark all the crosshatching lines and the outer border design was a Clover fine white marking pen. As it dries it shows up as a fine white line. To remove you just wet it OR iron it. I found that spraying it with water removed it initially but showed some lines when it dried again. I then ironed it and everything totally disappeared and has not returned. I would use this marker again on customer quilts with confidence now that I have tried it on my own quilt!

This quilt was made by Heather from Barossa Quilt & Craft Cottage. She gave me carte blanch with this quilt, so I chose a Keryn Emmerson motif from her 2 Easy Blocks pattern pack and medium stippled behind it to make it look a little like faux trapunto. The outer border of flying geese have all been continuous curve stitched inside the large triangles and then ditched the outside of the borders. The inner flying geese units surrounding the stars have been ditch stitched. The wadding supplied was Hobbs Polydown, lovely & soft and created a lovely 'fullness' to the larger unquilted areas of the motif.
