Colourwash Vase - this quilt is a customer's quilt that we had to do a bit of work on in the borders. I had to insert fabric in the top border & take a tuck (can't see it though!) in the left side border. The quilt measured 103" x 93" so was very large to handle. The flowers in the vase have been quilted with a variety of freehand flowers to form a bouquet. Small stippling in the background and a veined leaf meander in the green surrounding the centre block. The vase itself has 1/4" lines echoing on the inside till it diminishes in the centre. The next border is ditched and the Seminole border is ditched to form hearts on the back. The 2" cream border has a miniature feather vine on it using my 1 1/2" serpentine ruler to mark the spine of the feathers using blue washout pen & the large nine patch on point border has feather triangles adapted from Keryn Emmerson's feather pack. Also the 9 patch themselves have a simple tulip motif from Keryn Emmerson's blocks pack. The final border is Keryn's Rose Vine design.

This nosegay quilt done by a customer is absolutely gorgeous and is huge!! 100" x 96". I have designed a flowing feather vine across the top of the quilt with feather motif in the setting triangles. A filled feather vine in all the sashings was inspired by Darlene Epp's pocket guides. 1/4" outlining of the nosegay with stippling in the background finishes this quilt. The border also has a filled feather vine curving through the triangles in the border. The spines were all guided by my serpentine templates.

Wednesday's Best cover quilt (variation of). As no appliqué was done on this quilt I chose to quilt the floral vine freehand around the inner & outer borders on the tan. The zigzag coloured border has a leaf vine running through it and the centre lattice is done with the same flower in each 4 patch as featured in the outer borders. I really enjoyed the quilting process on this quilt!!

'Colonial Traditional' is a very large quilt using toile fabric in the large squares that alternate with the star blocks. I used a Keryn Emmerson block design for the toile blocks & 1/4 & 1/2 of the same design for inside the star centres. The stars were all ditched. Feather circle wreaths in the centre background squares, feather triangles on the same background fabric in the centre - both adaptations of Keryn's designs.

Jacobean hand appliquéd quilt - absolutely gorgeous!!! Could not convince the owner to hand quilt this exquisitely hand appliquéd quilt. Background filler to blocks is a tiny veined leaf meander from Darlene Epp's pocket guides. Ditched all sashings and then echoed & swirled the border appliqués and then mimicked them on the opposite diagonals.

This quilt was made by Annette for her daughter's wedding present. It is a most elegant quilt in 3 shades of grey with white background. Being so elegant & precise we chose the quilting to be the same. A motif has been resized to fit the 9" alternate white squares with a 3" daisy motif in the centre of all the stars. The stars themselves are ditch stitched and also 1/4" inside the rectangles. Star background has been stippled. The border treatment is continuous half daisies with a separate motif in the corners. This quilt with these motifs needed precise work which I don't think I could have done without the stitch regulator on my Millennium now!

This butterfly quilt is very bright & joyful! The zigzags are ditched and there is a butterfly meander in the yellow areas. I had to slightly catch the edges of the ironed on butterflies as some were lifting. The bright fabric has a number of different large butterflies in gold metallic thread. The borders have a double zigzag in an Aurifil bright variegated following the pattern of the quilt top.  The quilting is much more obvious from the back! I had lots of fun designing these butterflies, building on the pattern in the fabric and Darlene Epp's pocket guides butterfly meander.

This pretty quilt was made by Monique, a nurse in Adelaide, using lots of scraps with a muslin background for her daughter! It ended up a very large quilt, 92" x 105", to go down to the floor on the bed. I have quilted it simply, as requested, with a circle feather wreath in each plain block, using a 5" circle template for the circle spine then freehand feathers inside and outside. The baskets have been stippled on the background only. The borders have a feather vine all the way around using a new swirls'n'swirls template that I am currently developing and testing! The fourth photo shows how I created a 'centre' motif for the feather vine in the border. The corner spine of the feather vine was done with an 8" circle.

This cross-stitch medallion quilt has waited a long time to be quilted, according to it's owner! I do hope she is happy with it!!  I have again built on Darlene Epp's pocket guides and used her branching technique to create a lovely flower garden with various flowers, leafs and butterflies to complement the cross-stitch roses. The 3 frames/borders around each cross-stitch panel have all been stitched in the ditch with the appropriate coloured thread, as are the outer borders. We decided on the crosshatch in the first border to 'frame'/ formalise the freehand flower garden in the centre. The outer green print has a simple very large rose and leaf vine design going around it using green thread to match. The customer chose a white flannelette fabric sheet on the back of this quilt which meant being very careful not to stretch it at any time. At least it will never slip off of her bed!!
