Constantine Quilts Presents Part two of "CQ#1"

Sewing Instructions

  1. Separate the 48 deep dark (1) 3 7/8" squares into 2 groups of 24 squares making sure that you separate them evenly. (That is put 4 of each of the 6 deep dark fabrics in each group.)
  2. Separate the 48 medium dark (2) 3 7/8" squares into 2 groups of 24 squares making sure that you separate them evenly as above.
  3. Separate the 48 medium light (4) 3 7/8" squares into 2 groups of 24 squares making sure that you separate them evenly as above.

You will now have 6 groups of 24 X 3 7/8" squares in 3 different values. Put aside keeping the groups in their correct value.

  1. Get one group of 24 deep dark (1) 3 7/8" squares and one group of 24 medium light (4) 3 7/8" squares.
  2. On the lighter squares draw a diagonal line on the reverse of each square. Place one dark square right sides together with a light square and proceed to sew a scant 1/4" on either side of your drawn line. Refer to diagram 1.

  1. Place all your units through your machine at the same time to save on time and thread. Sew them all in one direction first then turn the 'chain' of units around and sew down the opposite side of the drawn line.
  2. Cut apart and carefully press not iron the seam allowance to the darker side. Ironing will distort the block as the seam is on the bias part of the fabric, so please ensure that you press these seams.
  3. Measure your 1/2 square triangle blocks & trim if necessary to 3 1/2" square. You should now have 48 half square units.
  4. Get one group of 24 medium light (4) 3 7/8" squares and one group of 24 medium dark (2) 3 7/8" squares. Repeat the same process as above to get 48 X 3 1/2" half square triangle units.
  5. Get one group of 24 medium dark (2) 3 7/8" squares and one group of 24 deep dark (1) 3 7/8" squares and repeat the process again.
